10 Actions

Shared Meals

I give my child my full attention at the table, without a screen.

A pleasant atmosphere at the table encourages communication. Parents should set a good example by practicing healthy eating habits and actively involving their children in meal preparation.

Out and About in a Stroller

I explain the world to my child without digital stimuli.

When parents respond to their child’s glances, gestures, or words, it supports language development.

Playing in the Children's Room

I'm creating a place to play and relax, completely free of screens.

Play materials alone aren’t enough. What really matters is when parents enjoy playing themselves, are creative, and give their child time and space. That way, they help their child develop and put their own ideas into action.

Put your cell phone away yourself

As a role model, I lead by example in using digital media mindfully.

When using digital media, children should ideally do so together with a caregiver. With active guidance, children benefit from social interaction and conversation. It is equally important for them to gain sufficient real-world experiences in their environment.

Telling bedtime stories

I let the day wind down peacefully and tuck my child into bed.

Bedtime rituals provide a sense of security and help children relax. According to the WHO, one- to two-year-olds need 11–14 hours of sleep, and three- to four-year-olds need 10–13 hours. Plenty of outdoor activity helps children sleep through the night and reduces the time it takes them to fall asleep.

Learning to Understand Emotions

I help my child recognize, name, and regulate their emotions.

It is crucial to use digital media mindfully. Digital resources do not replace personal relationships and emotional learning processes; rather, they should be integrated into a framework that supports the emotional development of young children.

Experience Exercise and Nature

I encourage my child to explore the world outside with all their senses.

Children should be able to give free rein to their natural urge to move. This can be achieved, for example, through routines or playful activities in everyday life. The WHO recommends that children spend about three hours outdoors every day, engaging in plenty of vigorous physical activity.

Dealing with Boredom

I give my child the freedom to take the initiative, be creative, and come up with new ideas.

Instead of masking boredom with digital distractions, it makes sense to consciously allow it and use it as a valuable educational space. This time offers an opportunity for free play, independent exploration, and creative self-engagement.

Limit Screen Time

I set clear guidelines for screen time and fill that time with experiences.

Screen time should be clearly agreed upon and consistently adhered to. Visual aids such as timers can help with this. Established routines help regulate screen time over the long term and create a balanced daily routine. They provide children and parents with guidance and stability.

Set Apps to Child-Safe Mode

I pay attention to what my child sees and guide them through it.

Parents protect their children by actively guiding them. By helping them use tablets, children learn to use digital media responsibly. Devices should not simply be provided passively. This is the only way caregivers can ensure what and how their children are learning.
